Design for Emotional Value
We believe, and studies support, that individuals in their personal and business capacities, make decisions based on emotion, and then justify/validate the decisions in multiple ways, including data and logic. But, emotions are the driver.
Business schools, including Harvard Business School, have studies that demonstrate just this point, such as this article: https://hbr.org/2015/11/the-new-science-of-customer-emotions.
We also believe that an initial emotional decision has to be backed up by on-going emotional validation throughout the use of a product or service. Otherwise, the user/consumer/business customer feels betrayed and has a huge let-down because their initial emotional response that drove the "buy" decisions was betrayed.
In other words, by designing for immediate and on-going "emotional value" to the end-user, products/services/brands maximize their returns, the immediate sale and the long-term customer loyalty.

The Tao of Transitions
We see the big and little aspects of life as a unified series of transitions. To us, life isn't a series of static points (or ones and zeros). Each moment, day, month, year is filled with overlapping transitions of all kinds and sizes. Our goal is to help people experience symbol-rich lives by creating awareness of the importance and value of transitions.
Daily life - each of these transitions from one to the next:
wake up, breakfast, projects, lunch, projects, dinner, read/watch/chat, sleep
Economies - economies are in a constant state of flux, locally and globally:
flourishing growth, stagnation, recession, stagflation, global, cold and hot wars
Environment - we all live an a complex, fast-changing, inter-woven environment:
climate change poses perhaps a global threat, likely existential in many places
Businesses - we all live an a complex, fast-changing, inter-woven environment:
people, budgets, targets, goals all change
Governments - change in regular cycles and in sudden spurts
elections/elected officials, administrative agencies, domestic and international laws and regulations, international organizations, and much more
Natural transitions - some of these transitions go in a set order, and some do not
spring, summer, fall, winter
sunrise, noon, sunset, evening, night
cold, warm, hot temperatures
calm, breezy, windy
sunny, cloudy, rainy, foggy, snowy
Emotions - these transitions frequently phase in and out and overlap in a wide range of patterns
happy, joyful, sad, angry, moody, frustrated, psyched
Friendships - these transitions also come and go, overlap, grow and fade in complicated, moving ways
Families, best friend, new friend, groups of friends, old friends, colleagues, supervisors, new hires
Sports - being a strong athlete and a strong team requires the ability to create and leverage transitions fluidly
Consider Tai Chi, which has at its core a fluid set of movements built around a deep, internal understanding of your own and everyone around you (including your own team and any opposing team. As Bruce Lee once famously observed in regards to his martial arts, "be like water." Soccer teams need to constantly move fluidly from offense, to midfield to defense, and from one side of the field to another, and with all team mates moving in sync in non-stop, non-predictable motion. It is a large pat of what makes it the "beautiful game."
