Problem:
Far too recreational boats rely on combustion engines, whether inboard or outboard. Go to any marina, and you'll see that power boats vastly outnumber sail (wind propulsion) boats.
Combustion engine, propeller drive and even electrics boats pollute the at very high levels. Combustion engines dump gas and oil into the ocean, at rest and when running. They pump combustion gases into the air.
Propellers cause noise pollution that harms a wide range of sea creatures, including endangered orca pods in the Puget Sound area. Propellers also cause a harmful mixing of the layers of air and water at and near the surface that is a critical part of ocean health.
Electric boats require toxic and heavy batteries (mining and industrial production facilities at the front end, and poor recycling at the back end), propellers and industrial power plants.
Solution: Make wind power a freshly viable alternative. We have a patented sail and rigging system that creates a new class of wind-powered boats for research (eg, Zodiac-style), recreation and other classes.
